The laboratory of the Spirit of Fire festival President worked from March 5 to 7 at the Winzavod Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow. Film director, screenwriter, producer, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, professor, head of the VGIK (Russian State University of Cinematography) workshop Sergey Solovyov presented photo and video works of the VGIK directing workshop students, as well as table reads and verbatim plays prepared by the actors of his workshops. Traditionally, the laboratory is taking place within the events that are held in conjunction with the opening of the Spirit of Fire. According to Sergey Solovyov, the festival always epitomizes the incoming of spring. This year, the festival was postponed to summer due to the pandemic. However, the traditional film laboratory has found a new form and place. The laboratory presented not only completed works, but also the way to their creation, open table reads, and art therapy this year. The invited speakers spoke about the cinema industry; there were also permanent and changing exhibitions of photos and sketches. "There is so much soul in the presented works, so much warmth of your hands. This can only be defined as wonderful laboratory work. It's very important what we give each other. It reminds me of my first creative works, the exhibition projects that I supervised, and my first filming. This is a great micro-atmosphere that nourishes the brain and soul. We are aimed at not turning art into a mechanical academic action, where everyone knows what to do to become an excellent student," commented Sergey Solovyov. He also assured that Ugra will definitely see the film laboratory's results. Congratulations on the opening of the laboratory were read out by Andrey Knyshch, Head of the Representative office of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra under the Government of the Russian Federation and in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
